About the shade
Damson Plum is a dark, dusky purple with gray in it, softer than eggplant and cooler than wine. It leans blue in shadow and warms toward red in lamplight. The gray keeps it muted, so it reads more like twilight than a bright violet. Next to Thistle Haze it's much darker and heavier, and next to Black Cherry it's cooler and more purple.
Where you'll see it
Damson plums with their dusty skin, the sky at twilight, the shadows in a lilac bush, and old velvet. It's in blackberry jam, the petals of a dark iris or hellebore, red cabbage, and grapes still on the vine. Look for it in storm clouds at sunset and in amethyst where it's darkest at the center.
In your home
A bedroom, a powder room, or a reading nook. It pairs well with sage, blush, gold, soft gray, and cream. Bedding, a velvet ottoman, or long curtains let it in gently. For something bolder, it's beautiful on a library or dining room wall with gold frames and warm lamps, and in a guest room it pairs well with crisp white linens and dried flowers.
In everyday life
A cozy robe, nail polish, a journal cover, or a teacup you save for slow mornings. It's in a knit beanie, a leather wallet, a fountain pen, or a scarf for fall. Try it somewhere you go to think, like the chair where you read or the corner where you sit with your coffee.
